SALK INSTITUTE ARCHITECTURAL TOUR
AND aTHENAEUM MUSIC & ARTS LIBRARY
Head back to school with Culture Caravan and explore the infinite realities that can be dreamed up when science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) collide in the realm of innovation. Come see where vision became reality 50 years ago at what is now a designated historic site. World renowned scientist Dr. Jonas Salk envisioned an open research facility “worthy of a visit by Picasso.” Architect Louis Kahn captured this vision in the building of two mirror-imaged structures, each six stories tall, and 350 feet above the Pacific Ocean on the bluffs in Torrey Pines. Experience monumental architecture and hear about ground breaking research. Lunch will convene at a local favorite, The Spot La Jolla, the oldest continuous restaurant location in La Jolla. We’ll finish off the day at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library.
LOCATION: La Jolla
