New Ambulance Being Added to Fire Services Fleet

Post Date:05/12/2017 9:05 AM

A new ambulance is being added to the Vista Fire Department’s fleet. In 2011, under economic pressure to reduce costs during the “Great Recession”, the City removed an ambulance from service. The addition of the fourth vehicle is expected to reduce the workload on the system  by better distributing calls for service; thereby increasing ambulance reliability for responses.

The new “Advanced Life Support” ambulance restores Vista Fire’s fleet to the pre-recession number of four vehicles. The ambulance will initially be located at Fire Station No. 3, on Old Taylor Street and E. Vista Way. The vehicle will be purchased in Fiscal Year 2017/18 which begins July 1, 2017.

The City is also proposing to establish a First Responder User Fee which is tied to the cost of providing services. Anyone who receive emergency services would be charged the User Fee. Most medical insurances cover the First Responder User Fee and the ambulance fee to transfer a patient to the hospital. If Vista Fire is called to an incident, but does not render a service – there would be no charge for service. The City Council will consider the fees during an upcoming City Council meeting.
