Northern CA Wildfires Remind Us To Be Prepared

Post Date:10/16/2017 11:20 AM

Wildfires burning in Northern California are a reminder that a wildfire could flare up any moment, especially when gusty Santa Ana winds are expected along with low humidity. As people watch the devastation of communities in northern California and the tragic loss of civilian lives, many have asked, “Could this happen to me?”  “How would I get notified if a fire like this happened here?” Watching the wildfires is a reminder that Vista residents should sign up for San Diego County’s free notification system which will be used to alert the public during emergencies and evacuations.

“We are fortunate to have a County which sponsors the free service called Alert San Diego,” said Vista Fire Chief Jeff Hahn. “This type of emergency notification would be used throughout our region or in specific areas to notify residents impacted by, or in danger of being impacted by, an emergency or disaster. Simply put, this type of notification is one of the most important tools in being informed about an incident near you or if you need to evacuate.”

Alert San Diego is the County’s regional notification system which will send emergency telephone alerts to those residents at risk during an emergency or disaster within San Diego County. Landlines are automatically included in the system; however, cell phone users (especially those with no land lines) are encouraged to register their phones.
