May 15, 2017 | 9:00 AM

The City Council recently approved the addition of an all-way stop sign, located on Melrose Way at the Breeze Hill Elementary entrance driveway. The City has received concerns from nearby residents about traffic flow and parents crossing with children mid-block through traffic between the school entrance and Melrose Drive. An all-way stop was proposed to provide a safer crossing opportunity. The sign will be installed in the next few weeks.

City Collecting for Personal Items for Adopted Marine Unit

May 15, 2017 | 9:00 AM

The City of Vista is collecting new bath towels and personal toiletry items for welcome-home packages for Vista’s adopted Marine Unit – Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 – out of Camp Pendleton.  Drop off an item through May 25 and receive a free reusable bag (while supplies last).

“HMLA-369” battalion, which the city officially “adopted” in 2008, has approximately 180 members returning throughout the months of May and June from a 10-month deployment. The welcome-home packages are for the battalion’s single Marines, many of whom return to empty barracks without the comfort of family and are in need of personal care  items until their belongings are returned to them several days after they arrive.

Retaining Jobs and Young People

May 15, 2017 | 9:00 AM

Vista’s Economic Development works to improve the community’s economic well-being, thus enhancing the quality of life for Vista residents. Yet, it is more than just creating and retaining jobs. It is also about retaining residents – especially young people who want jobs and are seeking opportunities. In Vista, that means working directly with the business community to have a diverse and trained workforce with skills that match business needs. Annually, the City conducts a survey of the business climate and is seeking volunteers to assist in this.

New Ambulance Added to Fire Fleet

May 15, 2017 | 9:00 AM

A new ambulance is being added to the Vista Fire Department’s fleet. In 2011, under economic pressure to reduce costs during the “Great Recession”, the City removed an ambulance from service. The addition of the fourth vehicle is expected to reduce the workload on the system  by better distributing calls for service; thereby increasing ambulance reliability for responses.  The City is also proposing to establish a First Responder User Fee which is tied to the cost of providing services. Most medical insurances cover the First Responder User Fee and the ambulance fee to transfer a patient to the hospital.
